Thank you for supporting our libraries and have a great weekend. World Book was founded in Chicago by publishers J. H. Hansen and John Bellow, who realized that existing encyclopedias were off-putting to readers. In 1915, they enlisted the help of Michael Vincent O'Shea, a professor of education at the University of Wisconsin. The first edition of The World Book Encyclopedia was published (as simply The World Book) in 1917, by the Hanson-Roach-Fowler Company. "As a rule," wrote O'Shea, the founding editor, in the preface of that 1st edition, "encyclopedias are apt to be quite formal and technical. A faithful effort has been made in the World Book to avoid this common defect." The encyclopedia's name would later be shortened to its current name World Book. This is a beautiful complete set of World Book Encyclopedias, 22 volumes. Navy faux leather covers with gilt design on front and back covers, gilt lettering and design on spine, spine has 2 raised ribs. Gilt text block on all 3 sides. The book was in very good condition, packaged very well for shipping. I live in Castine, Me, which in the 1600s was Pentagoet. I had seen a copy of this book and wanted one. When it came, I saw an unusual name handwritten on the front cover, that I knew (it showed in the pictures of the listing). I contacted that person, who is also in Maine and yes, they had a copy of that book once upon a time. Interesting to think about its travels to Tucson, AZ - where it was located when I purchased.

Seller took great care to ensure the book I purchased was shipped in a safe and professional manner. Great communication to put my mind at ease. Book quality was as expected, condition was as listed, excellent value for this hard to find first edition, first printing of Carl Jung’s The Red Book! Many thanks to the woman who took care of my order and communicated with me! She is an asset to your company.

Items were packed well and arrived on time. The items were in great condition and matched the seller's description. Paid a great price for the items and, given how challenging it would be to find a complete set in this condition it was worth it! Based on this purchase I believe the seller to be trustworthy and fair in how they assessed the condition of the lot.
