Putnam’s Sons/The Knickerbocker Press/ Lawrence and Bullen, 1898-1899. Two volume set. Brown leather hardcovers, with gilt lettering on covers and spines. Has gilt edged top text blocks, Frontispieces with tissue protectors, Tables of Contents, Illustrations (List of Full-Page Photogravures with tissue protectors in Vol. I), List of Plates for Vol. I & Vol. II (in Volume II). Volume I has 632 pages. Volume III has 655 pages plus an Index. Each book measures about 11” x 7 ¾.” Total weight is 13 lbs., 8.8 oz. Hardcovers have wear and discolored spine, as seen in photos; Volume II looks like it has been repaired. Pages are tanned from age; no creases, tears, or writing to text pages. End papers have some light foxing spots, and a previous owner bookplate is affixed to the inside front cover of each book. Volume I has erased pencil writing at the top of the back end paper, along with “47” in black ink. Note that I have described the books as best as I can. Absolutely delighted with this set of books! Condition as described or better! Each book was individually wrapped and placed carefully into a well packed shipping container. I was like a kid at Christmas eagerly anticipating each book as I unwrapped them. The books were shipped promptly and arrived before promised. I will definitely troll this shop for more bargains.
