[FEMINISM] [LITERATURE] THAT WHICH HAS NOT BEEN TOLD. [LO QUE NE SE HA DICHO] Author: Teresa Wilms Montt | Richard P. Butrick (Translator) Title: [FEMINISM] [LITERATURE] THAT WHICH HAS NOT BEEN TOLD. [LO QUE NE SE HA DICHO] Publication: Shanghai, China: Chiu Yih Book Company, [1940] Edition: Second Edition, Limited Description: Half Leather. Second Edition, Limited. Limited, Second Edition in English, of Teresa Wilms Montt's Lo Que ne se ha Dicho. Wilms Montt was a friend of many preeminent Latin authors of the early 20th century, being an anarcha-feminist and author herself, active in Chile, Argentina, and Spain. Her literary work employs themes of eroticism, personal grief, and spiritualism; truly, the opening words of her "Three Songs" best encapsulate Montt's motifs: "Sing! Pray! Weep!" She is further described as "embodying sexual aberrance and social prophecy" in Keith Richards' Themes in Latin American Cinema (p. 181), in response to the biographical movie on her tragic life. The original publication, Lo Que Ne Se Ha Dicho, is a collection of her works, published in Chile the year after her suicide in 1921. With an introduction, "Pages of my diary," "With Uplifted Hands," "The Three Songs," "From the Diary of Sylvia (notes for a novel.)" and "Anuari." In her article "Writing to the Dead" in the Asymptote Journal, Jessica Sequeira notes that "Anuari" was thought lost, as "the poems [here titled "Anuari"] correspond to those of In the Stillness of Marble," a separate set of poems by her. The translator, Richard P. Butrick, of the Foreign Service, was stationed in Chile in 1921-'22 when the work was first published, and was then transferred to a post in China. The limitation page states the First Edition of this translation was ten copies only, printed by Hankow Herald in China, and the Second Edition was limited to twenty five copies, printed by the Chiu Yih Book Company in Shanghai in 1940. We find no copies on OCLC or elsewhere of this or any other English translation of Wilms Montt. Half cream leather over blue patterned silk, with lettering in gilt. 61 pp. A decidedly uncommon work. This seller had great communication and integrity. I initially asked for an additional photo of something specific which was sent quickly, then I negotiated the price. The seller contacted me with several options when the book's binding failed while being prepared to ship and they were very honest. I took the option for a partial refund and having them repair the book before shipping. Once the repair was made, new pics were sent, the shipping was fast and packaged well. I recommend this seller.
