Description
The Nile on eBay Structures and Properties of Rubberlike Networks by Burak Erman, James E. Mark Rubber elasticity is an important sub-field of polymer science. This book is a sequel to the authors' previous, introductory book, "Rubberlike Elasticity: A Molecular Primer" (1988). It also places strong emphasis on molecular concepts and theories, and on equilibrium properties. FORMAT Hardcover LANGUAGE English CONDITION Brand New Publisher Description Rubber elasticity is an important sub-field of polymer science. This book is in many ways a sequel to the authors' previous, more introductory book, Rubberlike Elasticity: A Molecular Primer (Wiley-Interscience, 1988), and will in some respects replace the now classic book by L.R.G. Treloar, The Physics of Rubber Elasticity (Oxford, 1975). The present book has much in common with its predecessor, in particular its strong emphasis on molecularconcepts and theories. Similarly, only equilibrium properties are covered in any detail. Though this book treats much of the same subject matter, it is a more comprehensive, more up-to-date, and somewhat moresophisticated treatment. Author Biography Burak Erman is a Professor in the department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Koc University in Istanbul, Turkey, where he has been since 2002. His research interests are focused on rubber elasticity; polymer and protein physics and engineering, both experiment and theory, including computer simulations. In 1984, he founded and became Director of the Polymer Research Center at Bogazici University, before moving in 1988 to the Sabanci University in Istanbul where he founded the Chemistry and Materials Science Program. In 1991, he received both the Simavi Science Award and the TUBITAK S Table of Contents 1: Overview and Some Fundamental Information2: Classical Theories of Rubber Elasticity3: Intermolecular Effects I: The Constrained-Junction Model4: Intermolecular Effects II: Constraints Along Network Chains5: Relationships Between Stress and Strain6: Swelling of Networks7: Critical Phenomena and Phase Transitions in Gels8: Calculations and Simulations9: Thermoelasticity10: Model Elastomers11: Segmental Orientation12: Networks with Semiflexible Chains and Networks Exhibiting Strain-Induced Crystallization13: Networks Having Multimodal Chain-Length Distributions14: Small-Angle Neutron Scattering15: Bioelastomers16: Multi-phase SystemsAppendices Review "Graduate students in physical chemistry and polymer science working on rubbers and elasticity will greatly benefit.
