The series of books was short lived and as a result are now very hard to come by. He was the editor-in-chief of Field and Stream, were he created a stable of writers that included Havilah Babcock, Archibald Rutledge, and John Taintor Foote. Along with Nash Buckingham he played a major role in promoting waterfowl hunting regulations and stressing the importance of conserving waterfowl for future generations.
