Out of print and now extremely scarce. --- John Andre was a major in the British Army and head of its Secret Service in America during the American Revolutionary War. He was hanged as a spy by the Continental Army for assisting Benedict Arnold in his attempted to surrender to the British the fort at West Point, New York. André is typically remembered favorably by historians as a man of honor, and several prominent American leaders of the time including Alexander Hamilton and Marquis de Lafayette did not agree with his fate. Major Andre has been a prominent fixture and enigmatic figure in many books, movies and TV series about the Revolutionary War. -- This edition contains copious maps and details observed in Andre's Journal, along with a few beautiful illustrations added from an original publication. There are pages showing his handwriting, but the overall text is published in modern print to make it accessible to any military or history enthusiast. His cartography skills are on full display with beautiful maps drawn by him, and in several cases in fold-out form as shown in photos 14-15. The pages have a near cotton paper quality feel in a cream color (my photos make them look more white) and my poor lighting with occasional shadows don't do them justice! The beautiful brown leather has extravagant gold detail, to include even down to he spine hubs. This is a wonderful, slightly oversized edition and a historical prize for any well appointed leather library. This is the last copy I have in inventory and I don't expect to see it again, even as I buy more estate libraries in the future. It is a beautiful and scarce book. The disc case and blu-ray discs arrived safely in the described condition (like new). The discs play back correctly as well. I think the item was extremely good value, and it even came with free shipping, sent to post on the same day! The seller also sent a prompt informational message about how it was shipped, what to expect from shipping, and some details about them. This was a very nice experience all around; I would very much purchase media from this seller again.
