The Aldine: The Art Journal of America, 1874, Volume VII, Numbers 1 through 12 , published by James Sutton & Co., New York. This is the complete year of articles, stories, poems, essays, bound in a very large (11.5 X 16 in.), 240 page hardcover in 3/4 leather and pebbled cloth boards. Endpapers are marbled. Many black and white, some full page, illustrations throughout, including some gorgeous landscapes. A few illustrations (picturing the seasons -- see the penultimate pic) are monochrome. Good condition. Unmarked, securely bound. Frequent, mostly light, foxing stains -- a few are heavy, but only a couple of words' legibility are affected. Occasional, mostly small, clean edge tears -- a few are 1 to 2 inches long, some of those were repaired with clear glue (the longest tear, since repaired, is shown in the final pic). Many, mostly small corner creases. There is some fraying along the bottom board edges and board corners are rubbed through. Some bubbling of the cloth cover in front. The leather is scuffed and is shedding a little in places. Most all of the illustrations are in good or better, frameable condition. Free shipping in the USA. Thanks for looking!
