First Edition 1890, Cyclopedia of Michigan: Historical and Biographical, comprising a Synopsis of General History of the State, and Biographical Sketches of Men who have, in their various Spheres, Contributed Towand It's Development. Illustrated with 162 beautiful Steel- plate Portraits. Book measures approx. 10" x 12 1/4" x 3 1/8" 346 printed pages in addition to those 162 engraved portraits. Full embossed Leather with beveled edges on boards. All page edges and titles are gilt. This is a very large and heavy old book. I've had both covers professionally reinforced with cloth for strength . Page quality is very good throughout the book and they are still very supple and clean, with very minor age toning. Binding is tight and square. Embossed gilt titles on spine and cover are still quite bright. Some rubbing on the spine top and bottom. Corners are slightly bumped and rubbed through. Book is sewn very tightly and all pages are well attached. The tissue sheets that cover the engravings are all present and in good condition. This book is absolutely solid and gorgeous. A must for anyone collecting Michigan. The full page portraits are nothing short of frameable as artwork. We were able to find only 1 other copy of this book for sale on 23 book sites. The item (a circa 940 Spencer Lens Company microscope brochure) was expertly packed between thick cardboard pieces and protected in a plastic sleeve. The description and pictures were excellent. I consider it a good value and a great item to go with my Spencer microscope. I would gladly do business with this vendor again.
