The Royal Horticultural Society's current 'Dictionary of Gardening' has Nicholson's 'Illustrated Dictionary' as its basis, even retaining its predecessor's layout. Volume one contains a colour frontispiece, five plates, four of which are in colour, and numerous further in-text illustrations. Volume two contains a colour frontispiece, six colour plates, and numerous further in-text illustrations. Edited by George Nicholson, an English botanist and horticulturist, awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour by the Royal Horticultural Society for his contributions to horticulture. CONDITION In the original half crushed morocco with green cloth boards. Externally, with rubbing to the extremities resulting in minor loss to the leather. Fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. The odd small crease to the foredge. Minor age toning to the endpapers. With editor's letter tipped in to the front endpaper of volume one and the previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
