Description
Journal of the Life, Travels, and Gospel Labours of William Williams, Dec. A Minister of the Society of Friends. Late of White-Water, Indiana. By William Williams Published: Lodge, L'Hommedieu, and Hammond, Cincinnati, 1828. 272 pp. Contemporary mottled calf, leather label. Slight chipping at head and toe of spine, outer front hinge rubbed, quite heavily foxed, some marginal dampstaining. A sound copy. Williams visited Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia in his capacity as a Quaker minister. He blamed much of the evil he saw rampant on the frontier on demon rum, and had little betters to say about the northern states he visited. Clark aptly describes Williams' narrative as "an exceedingly dull book," but goes on to indicate that "material for the study of Quakers in the South in this period is so scarce that Williams should be consulted." HOWES W490. CLARK II:176. I've done my best to describe the book, but if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.

My order arrived quickly and it was packaged very well. The item I ordered was described perfectly and it even exceeded my expectations. The retail and shipping costs were both a great value. The Seller communicated with me throughout the entire sales process. I will order from this Seller again and I highly encourage others to do the same. This was a great retail experience!!!

Very rare item published in my home city in 1874. So pleased that this was offered for auction. The book is in better condition that would be expected for something 151 years of age. Well packaged for shipping which arrived seamlessly. Better than described. Value is priceless. Transaction was flawless. Recommended A+++

Split hinges unmentioned (reparable with skill and some rice paper), but still a handsome and serviceable copy, largely as described. Arrived well-packed in a heavy box and a waterproof plastic sleeve! Promptly shipped, a good value for money spent! Thanks!
