Brodie Hoare was Katharine Parry's married name. The bookplate of her husband, Edward Brodie Hoare, is to the front pastedown. Brodie Hoare was a banker and Conservative Party politician. He was a director of Lloyds Bank and a chairman of the Colonial Bank. This work largely forms an ethnographical work, and looks at the indigenous people in the Arctic. He speaks of the 'Eskimos', their culture and way of life, with many illustrations demonstrating this. This is Parry's second expedition of discovery, whereby he sought to discover a North-West passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific. He commanded HMS Fury and was accompanied by HMS Hecla which was under the command of George Francis Lyon. The mission was to find a passage near the northwest end of Hudson Bay. Parry navigated the ice of the Hudson Strait to the Frozen Strait which found him at Repulse Bay which he found land-locked. from there he mapped the coast of the Melville Peninsula and came to the southeast corner of Winter Island. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

Excellent in every respect; much better than originally described and pictured. The shipping was exceptionally fast, and the books arrived precisely on schedule. The packaging was both robust and thoughtful, which always makes a most distinct difference. I am grateful for this great value and for your having accepted my offer. Thank you so much for a truly pluperfect transaction.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
